Khiron totals 16 medical cannabis clinics across the globe

Khiron Life Sciences Corp. now has a total of 16 medical cannabis clinics across the globe with the opening of a new location in Peru.

Khiron’s latest addition of Zerenia™ has opened in Lima, Peru. The company has partnered with the specialised pain clinic, Clínica del Dolor Lima to provide medical cannabis treatments to over 10,000 chronic pain patients in the area starting February 2022.

Khiron CEO and Director, Alvaro Torres, commented: “In 2021, Peru represented around 5 per cent of our total volume sales in Latin America, and now with our new partnership with CDL we believe we can increase our sales cost-effectively by expanding Zerenia in Peru.

“In our first clinic in Peru, over 80 per cent of total consultations resulted in medical cannabis prescriptions, further validating our unique, evidence and service-driven strategy. By establishing a new pain-focused partnership with Clínica del Dolor Lima in Lima, we plan to grow beyond our current capacity and offer different treatment alternatives to more than 10,000 patients annually.

“Khiron recently began placing its registered products in various drugstore channels across Peru, improving the ease of access to patients who are prescribed medical cannabis in the country, and generating further growth.

“I am very excited about this partnership as it also allows us to explore different business models for the expansion of Zerenia across the region and we look forward to generating higher growth in the Peruvian market with a population of over 32 million people.”

In August 2021, Khiron has obtained registration of its first two medical cannabis products in Peru, which were available for sale nationwide in late Q4 2021. In November 2021, the company opened its first Zerenia specialist medical cannabis clinic in Europe, based in London.

Earlier, in July 2021, Khiron reported that it plans to bring its Zerenia clinic model to Brazil as it has done in Peru and Colombia, after it imported six units of Khiron high-CBD 100mg/50ml extract for a three-year-old child from Salvador de Bahia suffering from epilepsy.

The landmark sale was through Through Khiron’s strategic alliance with CANNAB, a patient association that connects physicians, patients and academic institutions.

Khiron stated that it aimed to use its first product sales in Brazil as a launchpad for South American growth. The company has reported that Peru represented 5 per cent of the total Latin America unit sales in 2021.
