Rapper Snoop Dogg has invested in the TSUMo Snacks company that manufactures tortilla and cheese puff flavoured snacks infused with THC.

TSUMo Snacks raised a $4 million seed funding round that was led by the LA-based Casa Verde. The snack company focused on savoury treats rather than the usual sweet treats that the industry favours. This is thought to be because it is easier to control dosage amounts and also, the sweetness masks the hemp flavour.

Each snack contains 10 mg of the cannabinoid tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

The brand officially launched in September of last year. So far, the range includes five different flavours of snacks in personal-sized bags sold at dispensaries in the US such as salsa, ranch and cheese puff.

TSUMo plans to use the funding to develop new flavours, snacks and multi-pack versions.

CEO and Co-Founder Caroline Yeh said: “This funding provides TSUMo with the opportunity to make considerable headway in bringing a wide range of unique snacks to market. With this new capital, we will develop new flavour profiles and form factors, further elevating and expanding the way people consume cannabis.”

“This capital will be used to supercharge TSUMo’s product roadmap as the brand continues to fill a need for differentiated infused products in a space dominated by sweet-centric offerings,” says Yoni Meyer, a Partner at Casa Verde.

Snoop Dogg edibles

This is not Snoop Dogg’s first move into the edibles market. He developed the ‘Leafs by Snoop‘ range in 2015 with Canopy Growth. It offered a range of chocolate bars, drops and gummy sweets infused with THC as well as boxes of flowers from various strains of the plant. The range featured flavours such as Blueberry Dream, Bananas, Northern Lights, Lemon Pie, Tangerine Man, 3D CBD, Grape Soda and Cali Kush.

The packaging featured trademark Snoop Dogg phrases in gold foiled lettering with instructions for use on the reverse. The phrases included “smoke weed every day” and “wake and bake”.

Snoop Dogg is listed on the Casa Verde site under his real name, Calvin Broadus. The company invests in and develops cannabis industry-related brands from banking to point of sale solutions.
